A question for Chiropractors and Homeopathic practitioners?

So, I have a question for Chiropractor's and Homeopaths. But before I ask my question, I need to give some back ground on why I'm asking. About a year ago, a co-worker's wife began vaginal spotting and feeling not quite well. Since she and her husband, my co-worker, seek out alternative health care opportunities, she went to a Chiropractor. He gave her an exam, took x-rays and told her she needed to have treatments three times a week because (paraphrasing here) of the sever subluxations and spinal curvature she was exhibiting those symptoms. He also had her go to see a partner in his practice who did acupuncture and homeopathic treatments. Oh, sorry if I don't get the terms exactly correct, I'm relating this from memory as told to me by my co-worker. So, after a year, she isn't getting any better and the spotting and other symptoms are getting worse. Then, last week, she collapsed at her church. The ambulance came and took her to the ER, and even though she and her husband felt the Chiropractor's advice of staying away from "allopathic" ( ? ) medicine, which would only poison her, the Doc at the hospital pressed them to allow him to do a blood test. The test came back, and the Doc said there seemed to be a problem and wanted them to see another Doc he recommended. They relented, reluctantly, and made an appointment. They went to see this Doc, who diagnosed her with Cervical cancer, and insisted they get her to see an Oncologist and have an MRI. Ok, now they're scared, they go see the Oncologist, get the MRI, and she is terminal with this cancer that has spread through out her body, lungs, other internal organs and spine. So, can you imagine how they feel ? A year ago, if the Chiropractor knew how to read an X-Ray, or suggested they see a "real" MD, she wouldn't be looking at dying in four to six weeks. What, as a practitioner of "alternative" medicine do you tell these people ? I F****D up ! I didn't mean to kill you? What ?!
I want to thank everyone for their answers. Just an update, the cancer is so agressive, that to have surgery would cause it to spread even faster. Even with that sad news, the Docs now give her only two to four weeks at most.

Why are books on proven methods of Holistic healing found in the ‘Speculation’ section at Book Stores?

Why are books about proven methods of healing the body and mind such as Qi Gong, Acupuncture and Acupressure, Ayurveda, Yoga, and Tai Chi found in the 'Speculation' section of Borders Book Store and Barnes and Noble? I'm currently stationed in Georgia now where I'm seeing this. Could this be a regional fad or misunderstanding? These are physical excercises and mental practices that are people have engaged spanning a period of more than 5,000 years with outstanding results and have even made Western skeptics in to common practitioners. Who's still speculating about it?

Do you think pets can be victims of a placebo effect?

One of the arguements against acupunture or other alternative healing practices using energies Science hasn't proven exist is that clients feel better because they expect the treatment to work, that they're victims of the placebo effect.

Do you think the same can be said for pets that receive such treatments? Can a dog or cat feel better because they believe this alternative treatment will work? Or can they feel better because they're getting all this extra attention from their owner and the healing practitioner?

I had a wolf-dog who had some acupunture treatments for arthritis in her hips while she was also being treated for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia. She seemed pretty happy when she was getting her acupuncture treatments. I don't know if it was releiving her pain or if she was enjoying the attention and dried chicken treats.

Thought Bandit,
You must not own a dog. As a dog owner, it's not difficult to tell when your dog is happy. They have a panting, open-mouthed "smile" and their ears perk up.

Do These Alternative Therapies Help Pain???

I have been taking pain medicines for Fibromyalgia, myofascial pain syndrome, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, degenerative disc disease, kyphosis and spondylosis. I am thinking of quitting seeing my current pain doctor and seeing a new one who practices alternative pain management.

She uses these therapies:
Biofeedback
Electronic Acupuncture
Nutrician
Quantum Healing
Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy

This new doctor told me she would prescribe the current medicines I am taking with the understanding I will be weanedd off of them as my body heals. Do you believe any of these new therapies can or do help?

Thank you.

Christians: Is acupuncture and accupressure a form of devil worship?

I know these practices are kind of "new age"-y and from eastern oriental tradition, but people seem to all say it works great. Is this something a Christian should or shouldnn't try? I want to get it for my fatigue and stress, supposedly it works great.
