Migraine? What to do?

I am 13 years old and I suffer from migraines. I get 3-5 a week. I have been getting migraines since I was five. I even went to the hospital once. I have a neurologist, but he isn't helping. Advil and all other pain relievers do not work for me :( taking naps, hot showers and baths, listening to calming music and getting a massage, putting a cold towel or patch on my head don't work either. I tried meditation, Accupuncture, biofeedback, and everything else but my headaches just continue. Will I suffer from these forever? Is there any hope I will get better? They rule my whole life! And I am only 13! Please help :(

Meningitis – my husband and I have questions about the aftermath and sleep help?

My husband had Mengitis in highschool. He does not know if it was bacterial...?
He is a restless sleeper, and for the first time I heard from his mother after he had Menegitis in high school she specifically noticed he never slept as soundly like he used to but very resltless, after recovery. To this day he does not experience restful sleep ever. I read about the tryptophan, seratonin connection issue related to post Meningitis patients. I also read that subsequent, restless poor quality of sleep that can linger is not uncommon. He also has to be doing something or busy most all the time, during awake hours, likes a dark room, and experiences migraines but not as often since we use alternative and improved his diet and eliminated some items. In addition, he is also somewhat fidgity and most always has to be moving his legs or foot while sitting unless we are at the movies or he is driving. Otherwise to our knowledge he is healthy. He is also a mechanic and is in constant daily exposure of fumes, oils, aerosols, on his skin and inhalation all day every day (which he can not smell) so may not consider nor desire that he needs to protect or stay away from (hazard of the job). The main question revolves around the Menigitis he had. I have read material regarding the aftermath of Menegitis, my husband experiences all that I have read, i.e. - sometimes cold extremeties, clammy, resltless sleep, leg movement, It is sometimes difficult for him to be still without movement or activity such as moving his leg or foot rapidly unless he is driving or at the movies. He never gets to experience deep sleep, dreaming, & awakes frequently during the nights. I understand there is a nervous system & brain correlation. I also read Menegitis can recurr. The bacteria can sit in your mouth or sinus often with no symptoms. I would like to know if there is any research out there, anything more as in scientific research done that may render very current or alternative help? I want to also know about recurrances and how they happen or how a past Meningitis patient may become susteptible again. My husband had a soft issue infection in his leg & we got rid of it right away in days with accupuncture and chinese herbs by a professional. I am wondering if any infections in his blood make him predisposed now since he had Meningitis before? What is the risk of recurrence later in life, he is 49 now? Is it for sure going to recur at all or what percent? Could the patient have no symptoms of recurrance yet pass it on and infect others like a wife who shares intimacy, utenstils, sneezing coughing etc.? In addition what is known now if anything to regain quality of sleep, since there is a seratonin-damage issue? Is taking tryptophan, melatonin, seratonin, or 5HTP a good or bad idea maybe start slow in low doses, would this be safe enough for a past Meningitis patient? Should a recovered Meningitis patient bring this up or be peridocally tested? If he did have an active recurrence again (viral or bacterial) would he know it, or could I contract it and come down with symptoms he may not exhibit? Is a spinal tap the (only) test there is? Would a basic blood test to check for infection to start with be of any value? Thanks to anyone.. M.D, personal experince, knowledgeable, natural or alternative background, all respected and appreciate you responses!

Is there a cure for Migraine?!?

Ok, so I have days that I feel like somene is shoving their fist and mushing up the inside of my skull..then there are days I'd like to screw off my head and put it in the freezer. I've had migraines since the age of 8 or so and I'm almost gettin to my mid 20's. I went for accupuncture, the real Chinese deal and that didn't help. I went for cat-scan, nothing, heck I even had Chinese meds and none of it helps... I'm gonna go outta my mind and shove a granade into my skull :-( but before I do, is there a cure, all doctors tell me they don't know....?

Accupuncture for migraines?

Has anyone had any success with accupuncture for migraines?

I need help. Ive been on percocet for about 5months.?

I will be 15 soon and ive been on Percocet (Oxycodone) 10/325 for more than 5 months. I have had chronic migraines for 2 and a half years. Ive tried accupuncture, nerve blocks, and way more. Ive been to more then 10 doctors which included migraine specialist, neouroligist, and more. Right now im seeing an adolesent medicine doctor and have seen him for about 5 months. He perscribes the pain medicine. My pain is excroshating (sp) lol 1 out of 10 its 1000000 its terrible. I cant cheerlead anymore. I go to half days for school now, and havent been able to get my credits to graduate. Also ive went to emergency multiple times. Nothing works. But now my doctor is trying to ween me off. and he was going to put me on methodone but now wont because he said hes been doing research. I need some advice please

Hydrocodone not as effective on my pain anymore – any ideas?

Make a long story short. Been getting headaches since I came to Los Angeles about 19 years ago. Took Excedrin, and over the counter stuff. Tried all of them. Nothing worked. One day the pain got so bad that I thought my head would explode. I walked into my Dr's office and he gave me Vicodin 5/500, and ran a blood test. Also sent me to a neurologist. I went home and took the pill, and 20 min later it was as if a wave came in and washed the pain away. I get severe migraines 4-5 times a week sometimes lasting more than one day. After a month it wasn't doing it's thing anymore. And they hadn't found anything wrong in the bloodwork, MRI,MRI w/contrast, etc.. So the Dr. gave me 10/500. It worked. But after a couple of months I had to take more than two at one time to help at all. Then Dr. switched to Norco which is 10/325 and less Tylenol so I don't get a liver problem. The Norco works but not all the time. I thought maybe I am doing something wrong. Tried drinking it with water, Coke, Coffee, etc... Didn't see any significant difference in the percentage it was helping. So my question is, is the pain getting worse or is the medicine losing it's effect? I have heard your body can get used to it. So in that case what do I do??? I use the following in tandem with the pill to ease the pain: accupuncture, accupressure massage, lying fully immersed in a hot tub (works very well), sitting under a hot shower with a massage cap that pulsates, putting Ben Gay on the pain areas, chugging a can of coke and burping(only works with Coke and only with the can..if I burp sometimes my headache vanishes..it's amazing). I have also tried Oxygen therapy which is used for Cluster headaches. It didn't really help not to mention it's soooo expensive. Oh! And I have also tried taking the medication before and after I eat. I have noticed it works better on an empty stomach. I also do meditation and Self hypnosis sometimes after I take the pill to try to put myself to sleep. So can someone tell me if I can make the medication work most of the time? Or this is normal with these pain meds. They just don't work as well over time?

Thanks in advance for your help.
I have tried all the Migraine meds too. I don't remember all the names but I have tried the two you mentioned and they didn't work for me. I literally went through 20+ different migraine meds. They also gave me seratonin release daily meds for prevention which did not help either. My Dr. actually called me up 3 months ago and wanted me to try a new drug he had seen in a conference. Tried that too, and nada. Hence I am stuck in this rut.
Haven't tried Botox. Is that expensive? And does insurance cover it? And I haven't tried crying either. I will try that next time.
I actually found a guy that was supposed to be the world's foremost migraine guy, and he was here in Los Angeles. But I had to change my medical insurance to see him. He wasn't covered under my old plan. This is 2 months after taking the 5/500. I went in. He looked at bloodwork, X-Ray, MRI, MRI with contrast, and he told me the headaches are because of the pills. I said I have been getting these headaches for over 10 years. The Dr. just prescribed the pills. But he said that's his prognosis. Then he sent me to UCLA pain management. Those guys got a neck X-ray. Then they basically told me to bug off because they couldn't find the cause. So I went back to my old Dr. At least every once in awhile he reads up on new stuff and has me try it. BTW as far as Caffeine, I get headaches if I don't drink Coffee in the morning. Also if I sleep at night with the windows open I get a headache the next day. It could be that I am getting different types of headaches. I just don't know.

natural anesthetic?

We've tried:

Physical Therapy, Rest, Heat/Ice, Massage, Chiropractic, OTC's, and Rx (muscle relaxants and pain killers - the latest is Hydromorphone which works for about 2 to 2 &1/2 hours).

Recently went back to trying accupuncture but this has yet to do anything.

Also watching foods, getting exercize (walking, stretching, swimming), and working on spending two 10 minute sessions in quiet, peaceful, calmness (for lack of a better word).

Vitamins & Minerals (multi, CoQ10, B2, Bcomplex 100) are also on board.

Do you have any useful suggestions for some sort of QUALITY and hopefully immediate pain relief?

Dx - Compressed vertebrae (T6/7) due to an accident. Also shows herniation of disc into soft space V above.

Pain is centered mid back - between shoulder blades. It catches in the sternum, causes pain to go up the spinal column (probably muscular in nature) and leads to neck pain and repeated migraines.

Massage has helped and has also made things much worse.
A special thanks goes to those who have submitted answers aiming to assist - not making this a joke - even though it is rather odd that people would post personal matters on the world wide web and thus might deservedly need a few razzes but to tell a person to go get drunk or go smoke weed is just STUPID. Thanks but no thanks

For those who have asked about an MRI -- yes, last year. One was ordered of my neck and T-Spine. It found a reverse curve of the neck and it completely "lost signal" in the T6/7 area.

Upper Mid-Back Pain – Please Help?

Can you offer sound advice for what it is that I can do to first find relief, then fix the situation?
This is scenario - 10 years ago I flipped off a SeaDoo. Instantaneous stinging ran up and down my back. It was all I could do to keep myself on my tippytoes to keep my mouth above the waves. For weeks my back spasmed. Things died down for a while although I was not able to carry heavier items or do some of the crazier stunts without consequences. Then 4 years ago I did a full stand to sit at work. The chair was broken and I went with it to the floor. The pain was immense but I continued. The constant pain has gotten so bad, I really hurt lifting my arms above my head, it pops when I bend forward, pain radiates up to neck and leads to frequent migraines, I can barely stand to let anyone touch my neck or mid back - between shoulders - ...minor relief in laying prone, knees elevated, towel under neck (careful I must be or the towel causes cramping in the neck), sitting or standing there is pain. Its almost as bad as some of the migraines. I've done MRI which showed a loss of signal and what the docs say is DDD. One chiro told me that the soft inner parts of the T 7 vertebrae pushed into the T6 vertebrae. It seems the docs only want to do pain meds - but yet not enough to kill the pain and get me active again. I NEED ME BACK! I've done months of accupuncture, massage (1 works for 2 hours of wonderful relief the other brings on cramping and migraine activity), pain meds, NSAIDs, TENS, PT (which said they could do nothing more for me at the time), tried to stay moving but things have gotten so bad I really struggle to make it through the day with required things, Im even looking into Biofeedback -- just to help me cope. Thats first then I can try to help fix the problem...hopefully

Do you have any helpful suggestions - and not the leafy or hops filled kind? Thank you

I must endeavor to bring back who I was before the pain
My PCP is great - just his nurse is not with it and complicates any messages to the doc. Second oppinions - Chiro x2 - one is great the other was a quack - Good Chiro (Pete) says he cant help anymore than what we've been able to do now - he was pretty bummed by that too. PT - moved offices cant get to them now - saw him 6 weeks at 2x/wk. some change but aggrivation on migraines and extreme cramping were bonkers- were to work on that next til they moved..... uhhh Im ashamed now that I cant fix this on my own - distraction doesnt work with the migraines nor on this pain anymore - Ive done what I know and I am out of options....but not out of hope yet
