We have a 5 year old great dane who has been diagnosed with Wobbler's disease. This disease has progressively worsened over the years and is to the point where he cries in pain every time he needs to get up and often needs our help. He is fecal and urinary incontinent which from a 140 pound dog is very hard to keep up with. We've tried everything including accupuncture, meds, chiropractic care - just not surgery because the cost is upwards of 00 and the prognosis that it would help is not good. He still enjoys short walks and attention, so I find it hard to put him down... but listening to him cry several times a day and even at night we get woken up 2-3 times to help him get up... and the worst is cleaning up his messes constantly. What are our options? I don't think anybody else would take in a dog like this. Help!

My beautiful female dachshund who is 4 years old is hurt, the day it happened she was jumping around and hurt herself. We took her to the vet right away and they put her on immediate crate rest with medication care (steriod, muscle relaxer, and pain reliever) she was in pain and would wobble around a little. Now it seems as if its getting worse I've kept her on strict crate rest 24/7 except when she goes to the bathroom outside. Her legs are starting to drag...I took her to the vet immediately and they said she needs immediate surgery, I gathered as much money as I could and even pawned some of my stuff to get the money but all I could come up with is ,000 dollars and the surgery cost ,200. Every vet that offers this surgery has told me that they will not work with me and won't do payment plan even with the ,000....and I don't qualify for pet care credit card...and neither does anyone i know. The surgeon said they need all the money or they can't do anything. I've taken her to get accupuncture and i haven't noticed any improvement, I'm going to take her to a chiropactor today but i'm just so sad because i can't get the surgery. I don't know what to do....I love my dog and it kills me to see her in pain, she looks so depressed, I don't know what to do guys? I don't want my dog to be paralyzed...does anybody know a vet in san antonio tx that offers dachshund surgery that will work with me? Plz help any advice would be great....
Well I took my dog to the chiropractor today and he was very nice and used some kind of instrument to sort of pop her back...when he used it he started from her back and went all the way down just above her her tail. He said he has seen this and dachshunds all the time and that sometimes it works on helping them and sometimes it doesn't. But he's very optomistic and will see her again on monday.
I'm really sad that no one will help me or work with me on payments on the rest of the amount for the surgery, I've called several vets that perform surgerys and none of them will work with me...If she were a human I know they would find a way. It's not fair....I reallly hope the chiropractor helps with her back because I don't know what else to do.
I hate seein her in pain and it breaks my heart when I see that she drags herself because she can't walk. I'm still going to do the medications and plent of crate rest and take her to the chiropractor.....I have to keep trying and hope for the best. Thank you everyone for your kind words and advice.

I have a 38 lb, 2 year old wonderfulKeeshond that I rescued & trained. He developed a limp/skip action-so adoption was difficult. I am keeping him. As the limp & pain worsened, I took him to an orthopedic specialist in NYC. Exam plus MRI confirmed luxating patella grade 2+. [other leg 1+, so I have been alerted that this may also need treatment]. I have been keeping him quiet (sic) & minimized exercise. [this is excruciating for both of us] Even with regular accupuncture, home massage, limited exercise, max amt. of chondrotin & this week aspirin, condition is worsening. Orthopedic Vet reccomending surgery. Cost is ,000 + follow up & rehab. Even less "top knotch" vets in this geo area are charging only 10-20 % less. Does anyone know of any funds to help cover fees for rescued dogs? Apparently many vets charge less for rescue dogs, once "adopted" this stops. No specialists use a sliding scale. I have been advised against Animal Medical by several people. Suggestions, help, ideas.thanx

I'm really just whining here but if anyone has a true answer, I'd appreciate it. Health insurance companies want to charge me more because I smoke, but non of them cover Chantix, the patch, the gum, hypnosis, accupuncture---nothing!
They charge me more because I am a health risk, possible to cost the insurance company more in the future. So why not help me pay for things that might help me to quit, eventually lowering theirs and my costs?
WHY????
