Back pain can be due to several reasons. Gaining weight is a good reason to start with. Back pain due to weight gain is most likely to happen during the last trimester of her pregnancy period. On the contrary, Relaxin also makes your ligaments soft and stretch that can lead your joints to become more flexible. Your spines can crick especially when you are often standing or bending in improper way. Proper way of bending when you need to stoop is by bending your knees. This practice will help reduce the risk of strain and back aches. Proper posture whether you are standing or sitting should always be observed. Hunching or slouching your back also needs to be avoided. This will lessen the risk of suffering from back pain.

Stress should also be avoided since it can also be a cause of back pain. There is a study that shows that stressed people are more prone to strain, pain and inflammation. It targets the area where there is weakness. A pregnant woman’s back is already stressed that makes it a good target and back pain may take place.

Should you experience back pains, there are some things that you can take to help you lessen the pain. Just make sure to consult your obstetrician or midwife before you take any medicines or perform new exercises. It may not be safe to take even a single dose of aspirin without doctor’s prescription.

You can ask your health care provider for some exercises to help you strengthen your back. Sleeping on your side will also be a big help to reduce the back pain that you might be suffering from. Putting a body pillow between your legs will put the pressure off your lower back and will help support your abdomen.

I have tried, diets, food elimination, food diaries, long term preventative medication (all types), lifestyle changes, acupuncture, massage, weight loss, weight gain, cranial massage, hormone replacement, pain management clinics, posture re-alignment, 5-htp, allergy testing etc etc etc and nothing seems to work to stop them - only Triptans work when I have an attack but where I live my Primary Care Trust only lets me have 6 tablets a month - due only to cost - not medical need. I can still wake up or just get a migraine without warning. How many a month do YOU get. Thanks.

Can some one please help with my daughters leg pain?

 

For the past year my 18 year old daughter has been suffering from extreme pain in both her left and right legs, so much so that she is unable to walk at times without crying in pain. She has repeatedly seen the doctor, has had an mri scan, and had numerous physiotherapy and acupuncture sessions. Nothing is working. She has been told that her sacroiliac joint is weak, but no one seems to know why or if this is the real cause of her problem. She is hoping to start University in September, but feels, at present, totally depressed about a future filled with the pain she is experiencing now on a day to day basis, which is stopping her from being a normal active teenager. Any suggestions, experience, or medical knowledge would be very welcome
The probably first started in September 2008 when she started to experience servere chest pains. I twice had her to the emergency department, as it seemed to mimic a heart condition. Since then she has had periods of time when she has had both chest pain and leg pain, which has stopped her leading a normal life. All she has been given are painkillers. We are now waiting for an appointment to see a neuroligist.

Bring it to a boil and then reduce heat and let it simmer covered until you notice the tomatoes become tender.

2) LA Philly Cheese steak

Ingredients:

1/2 Teaspoon black pepper

1/2 Teaspoon salt

1/2 Teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 Teaspoon onion powder

1/2 Teaspoon dried basil

1 lbs of lean beef sirloin

1 Onion finely sliced

1 Green pepper sliced

4 6-inch hoagie rolls split

4 oz light mozzarella cheese, sliced

Nonfat cooking spray

Preparation:

Add all the seasonings into a small bowl and mix them well.

Now apply the mixture onto the sirloin and make sure you coat it thoroughly.

Wrap the coated beef in plastic or wax paper and partially freeze beef sirloin for about 45-60 minutes.

Once partially frozen remove it from the freezer and slice the sirloin thinly.

Coat a large skillet with non fat cooking spray.

Heat the skillet over medium heat.

Add onions and green pepper into it and saute until soft and lightly browned.

Remove them from pan.

Coat skillet again with spray.

This time increase the heat to high and add the beef and cook for about 5-8 minutes or until you feel the beef is done..

Divide the meat and veggies evenly among 4 rolls and top them off with cheese.

You can also place them in a warm oven or under a broiler to melt cheese before serving.

That's it!

3) Veggie Burgers with a touch of herbs

Ingredients:

2 Cloves garlic, minced

2 Egg whites

3/4 Cup broccoli florets, finely chopped

3/4 Cup mushrooms, finely chopped

1/4 Cup onion, finely chopped

2/3 Cup cooked brown rice

1/3 Cup quick-cooking oats

1/3 Cup walnuts, coarsely chopped

1/2 Cup cottage cheese (1 percent)

1/2 Cup reduced fat cheddar

1/2 Teaspoon dried basil

1/2 Teaspoon dried marjoram

1/4 Teaspoon dried thyme

Preparation:

Spray medium skillet with PAM and heat it over medium heat.

Cook the broccoli, mushrooms, onion, and garlic until tender for about 8 to 10 minutes.

Add the herbs and cook 1 to 2 minutes longer.

Remove from heat.

Stir in rice, oats, walnuts, and cheese into vegetable mixture and season to taste with Lite Salt and pepper.

Stir in egg whites at the end.

Now form the mixture into 4 burgers.

Spray skillet with more PAM and heat over medium heat.

Add the burgers and cooked until you see them browned on the bottom which is about 3 to 4 minutes.

Spray top of the burgers with Pam and turn to cook until browned 3 to 4 minutes longer.

The back is an intricate structure of bones, ligaments, muscles, nerves, and tendons.

Back pain in the lower back or low back pain is a common concern, affecting up to 90% of Americans at some point in their lifetime. Up to 50% will have more than one episode. Low back pain is not a specific disease. Rather, it is a symptom that may occur from a variety of different processes. In up to 85% of people with low back pain, despite a thorough medical examination, no specific cause of the pain can be identified.

Back pain can affect anyone, of any age, but it is more common in people between the ages of 35-55 years. In the majority of cases, the cause of pain can be linked to the way the bones, muscles and ligaments in the back, work together.

The nerves of the spinal cord, which connect the brain to the rest of the body, run down a hollow channel in the spine (the spinal canal). Where the nerves pass out from the spinal column on their way to the muscles of the arms and legs they are known as nerve roots (see Figure 2). The bones of the back are also held together by tough bands called ligaments which, together with the spinal muscles, give the back its strength. The main muscles at the front and the back of the body are shown in Figures 3 and 4.

Medication for Back Pain

Two types of over-the-counter medications, acetaminophen and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID's), are commonly recommended to alleviate low back pain. Acetaminophen and NSAID's work differently and therefore may be taken at the same time. For short periods of time, prescription medications (such as narcotic pain medications and muscle relaxants) may be helpful to alleviate pain or related complications.

Narcotic Pain Medications

Narcotic pain medications are excellent at relieving pain, but these can be dangerous, addictive medications. These medications include Percocet, Vicoden, Oxycontin, and others. Using narcotic medications must be under close supervision, and only for a limited period of time. prolonged use of narcotic medication can be dangerous.

Muscle Relaxes

Muscle relaxing medications can be very helpful in the treatment of some types of back pain. Muscle relaxes are sold under the trade names of Flexeril, Soma, Valium, and others. These medications help to relieve muscle spasm, but may also make patients quite drowsy.

Opioids are appropriate only in the most severe cases of back pain; they are morphine derivatives and extremely addictive. But for those who have chronic, untreatable back pain, the may be a last resort back pain medication. They must be prescribed by a doctor.

Most episodes of back pain are caused by muscle strain. The large paired muscles in the low back (erector spine) help hold up the spine, and with an injury the muscles can become inflamed and spasm, causing low back pain and significant stiffness.

As with all pain relief treatments, there are some cautions with applying ice and using ice massage therapy. Never apply ice directly to the skin. Instead, be sure that there is a protective barrier between the ice and skin, such as a towel. Limit the ice application to no more than fifteen or twenty minutes. Additionally, ice should also not be used for patients who have rheumatoid arthritis, Reynard's Syndrome, cold allergic conditions, paralysis, or areas of impaired sensation.

Can acupuncture help for Progressive Bulbar Palsy?

 

I found a Chinese medical study suggesting Acupuncture had good results for symptoms of Bulbar Palsy, but it was a very small study and was published way back in 1996.
There seems to have been no further research even though the results seemed promising. Maybe the paper didn't stand up to peer review, or was proven to be flawed somehow.

So I'm wondering if anyone knows if acupuncture can ease speech and dysphagia/swallowing problems with Bulbar related neurological diseases?
